The perception of reviewers as people who’ve failed at the skill they’re critiquing doesn’t hold true for Nanee McGee.

Her book blog, Up All Day Read All Night, inspired her to expand her creative endeavors beyond photography and into telling her own stories.

And writing romance novels has given her her own happy ending: A small press signed her and has published her two novels.

We sat down with McGee, who writes under the name Dakota Storm, to hear her tale of becoming an author.

SADYE: Have you always written?

NANEE: I have always wanted to be a writer, since I was very young I was creating stories in my head.

Working an extremely stressful full-time job, it took a bit longer to get my first book out there, but my dream has come true of being a published author.

SADYE: What inspired you to begin writing for publication?

NANEE: I have always loved reading, reviewing, and hyping other authors’ stories, and when I started my blog—Up All Night Read All Day—I was reviewing for many genres, and I fell in love with the LGBT genre.

Stories just came in my head that I felt needed to be written. I was inspired to achieve my goal of writing a story, and I was extremely lucky to have JMS Books LLC offer me a contract to publish my story.

Now, two books later, I am loving writing and seeing reviews of my own stories.

SADYE: What has been your proudest moment as an author?

NANEE: When I signed with JMS Books LLC. JMS took a chance on me, and the very first book I finished, they took the a chance and offered me a contract.

They published Hunter on February 11, and it's been an amazing journey ever since.

SADYE: What’s the best decision you think you’ve made to further your writing career?

NANEE: Putting myself out there, taking that leap, that chance. After I  finished my first book, Hunter, I  submitted it for publication and I was very lucky and offered a contract.

Working with JMS has helped me become a better writer and has enabled me to continue my dream of developing stories I want to share.

SADYE: What made you switch writing personas?

NANEE: I plan to write under my nickname Nanee McGee in the future; my plan is to write M/F romantic suspense and also paranormal romance.

But I will always continue to write M/M romance stories because I love this genre so much and I do believe EVERYONE deserves a happily ever after!
