Those of you who stayed up too late last night — or who found themselves irritatingly alert in the early-morning hours, thanks to your body’s processing of alcohol — may want to hear of a silver lining.

Namely, many of literature’s greats suffered from poor sleep patterns, so perhaps there’s a link between creativity and insomnia.

Marina Benjamin, author of a memoir titled Insomnia, examines how the likes of Emily Brontë, Vladimir Nabokov, and Marcel Proust viewed their exhaustion in the Guardian.
