Bob Woodward to receive PEN America Literary Service Award

Congratulations are in order this morning for journalist and author Bob Woodward.

Woodward, long known for All The President’s Men and most recently recognized for Fear: Trump in The White House, will receive the 2019 PEN America Literary Service Award, according to the New York Times.

He’ll be honored May 21 during the PEN America Literary Gala in New York.

“Woodward has set the standard for dogged and objective reporting and gripping storytelling,” said Suzanne Nossel, the chief executive officer of PEN America, in a statement. “His work has helped fortify American democracy for decades.”

PEN America, an organization that champions the freedom to write, describes the Literary Service Award as going to "an important writer whose critically acclaimed work has drawn a wide audience and who helps us to understand the human condition in original and powerful ways."

Fear, published in September, quickly became a New York Times bestseller and ranks among 2018’s hottest books; it was among the top-ten selling hardcover books, with nearly a million copies sold.

Woodward additionally has shared two Pulitzer Prizes, one of which was for his coverage of Watergate — the topic of All The President’s Men.
