Judith Kerr, a beloved children’s writer and illustrator, died yesterday at the age of ninety-five.

With over thirty books to her name, Kerr deservedly won illustrator of the year at the British Book Awards on May 13.

She began publishing in her forties, scoring a huge hit with her debut book, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, and would have celebrated another release had she lived until June.

Learn more about Kerr, whose family escaped the Nazi regime, inspiring her to write a trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels, in the Guardian’s obituary of her and through her colleagues’ remembrances of her.
