Most creatives have their critics, but those of French playwright Molière are especially harsh, arguing that he wasn’t educated enough to have written works credited to him.

Two scholars, though, have at least discredited the claims that one particular poet was the true author of Tartuffe, Le Misanthrope, and other plays.

The Guardian reports that they ran works by Molière; Pierre Corneille, who was purported to be the real playwright by at least one writer; and several other contemporaries through an algorithm to analyze the writing styles.

Their conclusion? The other authors were definitely not Molière’s ghostwriters, and plays credited to Molière were most likely written by the same person.

So, sure, Molière could have found an obscure playwright to pen all of his works, but we can at least rule out some potential ghostwriters.
