Kristine Kathryn Rusch has bad news for writers: your business won’t be immune from coronavirus.

She isn’t saying this to inspire (more) panic, but rather so you can adjust your expectations and business plan.

Rusch has heard several writers say they expect to see a sales boom, as people who are infected with or quarantined for exposure to COVID-19 seek safe entertainment.

She cautions you not to assume this will happen immediately — in times of crisis, people focus on essentials.

And as much as bookworms declare reading material to be a necessity, they say that during times of calm.

So what should you do? The same, Rusch says: make sure you’re focusing your spending on essentials, not luxuries, for your business.

Read more about what Rusch advises writers to do for their businesses during (and after) the coronavirus outbreak on her blog.
