It’s Groundhog Day on the reader newswire today.

Yesterday, we bemoaned the adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon; today, it’s Catherine, Called Birdy whose adaptation is giving us heart palpitations.

Lena Dunham, of Girls fame, wrote the script and is directing the movie version of Karen Cushman’s 1994 Newbery Honor-winning book about a medieval girl determined to escape her arranged-marriage fate.

Deadline reports that filming is set to begin in March and May 2021; no casting decisions were available, but if you’re in the United Kingdom, you might be able to sneak a peek if you’re near Shropshire or Gloucester, Britain, or in Wales.

Deadline and Literary Hub, which alerted us to the news, were also somewhat optimistic about the film, so perhaps we don't need to cast Birdy's heartbreak spell on the movie team ... yet.
