The late actor Christopher Lee was no stranger to bringing literature to life, counting Dracula and Saruman (from the Lord of the Rings trilogy) among his many roles.

So it’s not entirely surprising to stumble upon recordings of him reading classic stories out loud.

Open Culture gathered up four videos of Lee reading stories from The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes and links to another site’s collection of him reading seven other tales from the same book.

The post also reflects on the enduring appeal of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective, in between videos of Lee.
