Readers over the past few centuries have taken a number of messages about relationships away from Jane Austen's novels.

Mostly about romantic relationships, along with some about familial and platonic bonds — but also in regards to food, exercise, and physical health.

The new book Jane Austen’s Table: Recipes Inspired by the Works of Jane Austen obviously incorporates actual cooking instructions, but it also explores how Austen's characters relate to food and physical activity.

You can read an excerpt from Jane Austen’s Table (which includes a recipe) by Robert Tuesley Anderson at Literary Hub.
