Readers, or at least those who follow us on Facebook, weren't ready to see COVID-19 in books a few years ago.

And author Deb Caletti totally understands and empathizes with that — she too was exhausted and terrified.

But she and other writers had to consider whether their fiction would feel bizarrely old-fashioned if it ignored the era of masking, isolating, sanitizing, and hoarding.

Caletti came to her own conclusion, that her duty as a writer was to tell the truth, and so addressing the pandemic was paramount.

If you're still wrestling with the question of what to do about COVID-19 in fiction, though, check out her post on the topic at Writer's Digest.
