Is Deadline throwing a bone to grumpy bookworms or agreeing with them?

We're not sure, but either way, in its post announcing that A Wrinkle in Time is becoming a stage musical, it made sure to note that there are seven (!) play adaptations of it, plus TV and movie versions already.

Nevertheless, Madeleine L’Engle’s classic book hadn't had a musical version yet, so that's what's coming in the next few years — thanks, in large part, to Charlotte Jones Voiklis, L’Engle’s granddaughter and director of her literary estate.

Deadline says dates for productions will come out next year, along with more details on the creative team behind it.

Also coming to the stage, albeit without songs: Lucy Ellmann’s Ducks, Newburyport.

Literary Hub caught a casual reference to that plan in a profile of Cate Blanchett, who's apparently working on the adaptation.

Ducks, Newburyport was shortlisted for the 2019 Booker Prize but won the James Tait Black Award and the Goldsmiths Prize; it was notable for consisting of a single sentence (426,100 words long) that lasted for over a thousand pages.
