We’ve been bidding out work on our first home, which was built in the 1920s.

Needless to say, we enter each project having almost no idea how much something “should” cost before the bids start rolling in.

So we have empathy for new authors out there who understand they’ll have to hire freelancers but can’t even begin to predict the estimated cost.

Luckily for them, Nathan Bransford, author and former literary agent, has had enough experience hiring out work that he can provide a ballpark cost for various aspects of the publishing process.
