Writer’s Digest editor Moriah Richard wants to set the record straight when it comes to magic in fiction — it isn’t simply an easy (or lazy) way to solve any plot problems.
Today’s readers want there to be some structure in their fantasy and other fiction that includes magical elements.
So, to write a strong fantasy story, she suggests choosing a spot on the magical spectrum (as defined by Brandon Sanderson) and shares three questions to ask yourself about the plot, in order to make that decision.
