Author Anne R. Allen points out that a common source of names for writers — the obituaries in the daily newspaper — has become less frequently used (or less readily available).
But the good news is that a number of other resources have popped up, especially in the internet age.
And no matter which brainstorming method you choose for picking a character name, there are a few rules worth heeding so that they resonate with readers rather than sticking out awkwardly in their brains and disrupting the story’s flow.
