The right time to launch a book is, obviously, once you’ve revised it and had it edited.

But sometimes having a date in mind can help keep you on the path toward having that done in a timely manner — and it can always help your marketing efforts in the lead.

So how do you pick a launch date?

Penny Sansevieri encourages you to think like a big-box retailer when it comes to holidays — you want readers to be able to buy your holiday-themed book as a gift for that occasion, not to have to wait until the spirit has passed.

And other months have a distinct advantages for certain genres, she points out.
