A successful young-adult author once warned: “Teens can sniff a phony at twenty paces.”

So, then, who better to take YA writing advice from than an actual young adult?

Specifically, we’re thinking of Ren Koppel Torres, who is both a teen reader and a teen author.

Torres shared her thoughts with Writer’s Digest on how exploring characters’ motives can improve both their development and any soft spots in your middle-grade/YA novel’s plot.
