Growing up, you were probably told at least once (if not more) not to compare yourselves to others.

Orna Ross and Dan Parsons want you to forget that advice. Sort of.

The authors and self-publishing experts explain in a recent podcast that being able to identify comparable writers and books to you and your works is a key part of marketing.

That definitely isn’t to say you examine their performance and judge yourself for falling short.

What they mean is, you can and should use them to guide your branding, because uninformed decisions on genre placement and marketing can cost you dearly.
