Oh, how computer voices have evolved in the past decade-plus.

Think back to the first GPS unit you owned, if you're skeptical — no matter how you feel about Siri, Alexa, and the like, they're less robotic than our 2010 Garmin.

These gains, of course, have ramifications beyond navigation and voice searches.

Plenty of people in the publishing industry have already dabbled in AI narration for audiobooks, and they expect to see more people do so as technology continues to improve.

Orna Ross and Joanna Penn touch on the potential of AI voices for authors in their bigger overview of changes in the audiobook market (available on the Alliance of Independent Authors blog), and The Passive Voice also recently shared Wired's article on how some in the publishing industry are reacting to synthetic voices.
