Self-reflection exercises can feel awkward and indulgent, at times.

But author Kim Bullock did one back in 2010 and has revisited it several times, and she'd argue in favor of trying them — especially as 2020 and the years beyond have done a number on our mental health.

Her particular method was to write a letter about herself, like the ones she used to write about her daughters to their new teachers each year.

The benefits of it are multiple, for Bullock — it reminds her of her strengths and helps her improve upon her weaker areas, by forcing herself to identify self-defeating or harmful patterns.
