A recent submission to Jane Friedman's Ask the Editor feature came from a new — and frustrated — writer.

They can tell that their writing has weaknesses, but they struggle to break it down much further and to keep their energy up to revise it.

So what should they do?

Editor Tiffany Yates Martin first advised them — and all authors, as a matter of fact — to take it easy on themselves.

From there, Martin talks them and other authors through how to find the problems in their writing so that they can be fixed.
