Jane Austen has served as inspiration for many writers and readers throughout the years.

Women Writers, Women's Books recently featured reflections from two such writers (who were, of course, first readers).

Both pay homage to Austen in their novels, but took away other kinds of inspiration from the author.

Jessica Bull observed the resilience of writers, while Melodie Edwards notes how her characterization and descriptions push readers to think deeper beyond the surface escapism.
