Fittingly, we'll start the week with two stories that aren't likely to bring many smiles to writers' faces.

Last week, the Romance Writers of America filed for bankruptcy, the Guardian reports.

Accusations of racism and subsequent complaints over how the group attempted to address the issues have resulted in a significant drop in membership.

That, in turn, led to empty rooms at hotels where conferences were to be held — and then unpaid bills to the convention centers.
On the flip side, we have news on something that's growing: Meta's interest in artificial intelligence.

Specifically, the Alliance of Independent Authors highlighted Meta-owned Facebook's new policy of using content on the platform to train AI tools.

Most alarming to creatives is how you can't be guaranteed of an opt-out — you can only request it.

Robin Phillips of Author Help shares how they requested and were granted an objection, but notes that others' mileage — especially if they're not in the EU or UK — may vary.
