The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • From Hollywood to novels: TD Donnelly discusses the differences between writing for the screen and the page in an interview with Joanna Penn (The Creative Penn).

  • Former book retailer of the year disappears from High Street: Dan Holloway unpacks the changes for bookseller WH Smith along with other news items of note for the publishing industry (Alliance of Independent Authors).

  • Amazon Author Central changes: Penny Sansevieri alerts writers to the fact that they can't use a URL in their author bio anymore and shares a workaround (Author Marketing Experts).

  • The best pricing strategy to hit the bestseller list: Sansevieri, along with podcast cohost Amy Cornell, analyzes the psychology that goes into setting a price for your book (Author Marketing Experts).

  • The rational-irrational author: If you find yourself mentally spiraling sometimes (or often), Therese Walsh invites you to try a psychologist's "ABC model" to counter irrational beliefs (Writer Unboxed).

  • Scene segmenting: C.S. Lakin encourages authors to use this cinematic technique to focus their scenes so that they can show, not tell, action as well as its impact on the characters (Live Write Thrive).
