The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Avoiding purple prose: Becca Puglisi helps you recognize the signs of overwrought and clunky writing, so that you can avoid it in your work and also heighten your descriptions at the same time (Writers Helping Writers).

  • Writing during turbulent times: Jude Berman explains how, for her, fiction plays a role in processing the events at various points in her life (Women Writers, Women's Books).

  • All about book reviews: Joanna Penn interviews Joe Walters about the various types of book reviews that authors — especially indies — need and the dos and don'ts of obtaining them (The Creative Penn).

  • Marketing a self-published novel: Penny Sansevieri provides a general map of what indie authors need to do in order to spread the word about their work (Author Marketing Experts).

  • NewYox Media and its suite of magazines: Victoria Strauss underscores that an invitation to be interviewed for free could very well be the bait to lure an author into a pay-for-play feature in a publication of dubious circulation (Writer Beware). **

** Please note: The Fussy Librarian, from time to time, interviews authors at no cost to them, but there is NEVER a follow-up solicitation for ANY purchases.)
