The publishing experts we follow have plenty of reflections on the creative process to offer.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Discovering my brain's native language: Christina Larocco examines how, as an AuDHD author, her writing style will necessarily differ from what's traditionally defined as "good" and why she won't try to shoehorn herself into that template (Jane Friedman).

  • Your brain is a story machine: Another neurodivergent writer, Kelsey Allagood, also explores the way in which creative — and not neurotypical — brains work, plus what "shortcuts" like AI will cost their work (Writer Unboxed).

  • What kind of writing monster is lurking in your brain?: No matter how you're wired, chances are that you've hit some sort of mental stumbling block while writing; Colleen M. Story gives snarky names to these various obstacles and shares how to overcome them (Writers Helping Writers).

  • The uses and abuses of ambition: Therese Anne Fowler takes a realistic look at what most authors can expect to attain, financially, and invites authors both to consider get-rich-schemes with appropriate skepticism and to not lessen their ambitions, but to identify realistic and individually appropriate ones (Writer Unboxed).
