The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • Coping mechanism thesaurus — practicing gratitude: Becca Puglisi gives examples of how practicing gratitude, as a way to process and handle stress and hurt, can show that your character is growing (Writers Helping Writers).

  • Microtension in fiction by degrees: C.S. Lakin explains that while the amount of microtension in your fiction will vary based on your genre, any compelling book will contain at least a few "sticky bits" (Live Write Thrive).

  • Keeping track of your media outreach: Paula Rizzo, a media trainer for authors, offers an organizational plan for authors making publicity pitches (Writer's Digest).

  • Interview with Sara Rosett: Joanna Penn and this bestselling author discuss special editions, seasonal podcasts, low-key book marketing, and more writing-business topics on her podcast (The Creative Penn).

  • April's update on the Anthropic copyright settlement: Now that the deadline to file a claim in this suit has passed, Victoria Strauss breaks down what's going on and what's next (Writer Beware).
