The publishing experts we follow have plenty of advice to offer, spanning a variety of topics.

Here are the ones that we thought were can't-miss for our authors:

  • What books get optioned now: Jane Friedman reports back on what she learned from the seven panelists who spoke at an event called Optioned: A Publisher’s Guide to the Adaptation Room.

  • Has AI already killed how-to nonfiction?: Author Tim Ferriss concludes a post on how his sales — and prescription nonfiction at large — have dropped as LLMs become more common with the reasons why he's actually not panicking.

  • Pets in fiction: Author Sophie Masson contrasts pet ownership statistics — which show our keen interest in having animals in our homes — with four-legged friends' relative absence in novels for adults (Writer Unboxed).

  • Writing dark fiction for teens: Author Wendy Heard has five pieces of advice for telling a story that will spook readers just the right amount (Writer's Digest).
