American author and activist Jack London was born on this day in 1876. London became famous for "White Fang" and "The Call of the Wild" and also was one of the first writers to become wealthy by writing fiction for magazines. London died at the age of 40 and his cause death for decades was often described as suicide. Scholars now believe London died from the effects of alcoholism and an accidental morphine overdose.
