Congratulations are in order for a few authors today!

Tommy Orange was announced as the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize winner on Tuesday, and Gwendoline Riley received the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize on Wednesday.

Orange’s There There brings together twelve Native Americans to the Big Oakland Powwow and gradually reveals their reasons for attending — some good, some bad, all powerful.

The novel was also shortlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction (to be announced January 27) and longlisted for a National Book Award.

Riley’s First Love tells the story of a toxic marriage and was also shortlisted for a number of UK literary awards.
