No surprise that James Bond is still popular — the steady steam of new movies proves that.

But it turns out that Agent 007 remains a fantastic recruitment tool for MI6, the United Kingdom’s foreign intelligence service.

Rory Cormac, associate professor of international relations with a specialty in secret intelligence at Nottingham University, recently told Hays Festival attendees that while Bond doesn’t represent the MI6 brand perfectly, he is the perfect marketing tool.

The spy with a license to kill has even proved his worth in the diplomatic realm.

“When MI6 agents are trying to make contact with people in far-flung countries as part of operations, they have been known to be greeted, ‘Hello, Mr Bond!’ It helps to break the ice,” Cormac told the Guardian.
