Even writers adapting their own work can find the task of turning a beloved book into a show or movie daunting.

It turns out writers doing the opposite — creating books out of TV shows or films — can empathize.

With the recent release of a Stranger Things tie-in novel, the Guardian talked to three writers who have taken content from the screen to the page about their experiences.

Adam Christopher (Stranger Things), Chuck Wendig (Star Wars), and JT Colgan (Doctor Who) describe the challenges of handling fandom.
