You may not have known that bestselling author Nicholas Sparks is also the co-founder of a prep school.

But he is, and that school — Epiphany School of Global Studies — has been at the center of a legal battle since 2014, the Daily Beast has found.

On one side is the school’s Board of Trustees (which includes Sparks); on the other, former headmaster and CEO Saul Benjamin, who claims that the board demonstrated a “pattern of harassment, racism, and homophobia.”

Sparks has denied these allegations in court, though he did not provide any further comment to the Daily Beast — which shares a number of emails from the A Walk to Remember author to the headmaster that criticize Benjamin’s efforts to make the school more inclusive.

Learn more about the school and the lawsuit in the Daily Beast.
