Yesterday’s announcement of the partial Not the Booker Prize shortlist was overshadowed by other literary news.

Readers whittled the original 170 nominees down to just three picks:

Next week, the list will double in size, with one nomination from last year’s judges and one from each of the Guardian’s two nominated book champions (Storyhouse Library in Chester and Golden Hare Books in Edinburgh).
