John Le Carré’s next book will pull no punches in terms of his views of Brexit.

An excerpt of Agent Running in the Field, his twenty-fifth novel, was published in the Guardian over the weekend.

The book is set in 2018 Britain, and thus the excerpt includes a member of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) acknowledging that his country is in “freefall,” partly thanks to the “sheer bloody lunacy of Brexit.”

Agent Running in the Field comes out October 17 in the United Kingdom and October 22 in the U.S.; you can read more of the preview here.
