Bestselling Southern author Anne Rivers Siddons has died.

The Associated Press reports that Siddons died Wednesday at the age of eighty-three.

She was best known for her novels Peachtree Road; Heartbreak Hotel, which was adapted into the movie Heart of Dixie; and The House Next Door, also made into a movie and praised by Stephen King as one of the century’s best horror novels.
