2019 was yet another record year for digital book lending, according to Rakuten OverDrive.

In total, 326 million ebooks, audiobooks, and digital magazines were checked out, representing a 20 percent increase over the previous year.

While ebooks made up the larger share of checkouts, OverDrive reports that the number of audiobooks checked out grew 30 percent, outpacing ebook growth for a sixth straight year.

Additionally, seventy-three public library systems each lent more than a million digital books — eight of those systems hitting the milestone for the first time.
