A former US representative who resigned over nude photos and allegations of an affair is writing a memoir.

Katie Hill represented California for less than a year before the photos were leaked, along with rumors that she’d had a sexual relationship with a staffer, prompting an ethics probe from the US House.

Hill called her book “an act of defiance” in an interview with the New York Times, because rather than shrinking from the spotlight, she's returning to it and not avoiding a discussion of the scandal.

In addition to detailing Hill's experiences, the book will also examine the inequality and double standards in politics and how women can defeat them.

She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality comes out August 18 in a nod to the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
