Bestselling and critically acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has denied that she plagiarized a fellow Nigerian writer's novel.
Anne Giwa-Amu posted a YouTube video over the weekend accusing Adichie of copying the 1996 novel Sade and also shared a document on her blog detailing the content at issue, reports The Guardian Nigeria.
The Adichie work in question, Half of a Yellow Sun, received a number of honors, including the Orange Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Open Book Award, and was also adapted into a movie.
Adichie’s agency said, in a statement, that a court in the United Kingdom dismissed Giwa-Amu’s claims and also ordered her to pay damages and legal costs, which Giwa-Amu has not done.
