Not every celebrates the same winter holidays — or even celebrates a single one — but this time of year is undoubtedly the season where charitable efforts shine.

Here are a few of the heartwarming book-related stories we’ve encountered in the past few weeks, to hopefully wind your day down (no matter how you spent it) on a comforting note.

From the Chicago Tribune: A 57-year-old man wanted to spend his lockdown learning to read … and a learning-disabilities specialist/dyslexia therapist was finally able to help him.

From The Associated Press: A Sri Lankan man has made a second (unpaid) job out of delivering books on motorbike to children in the most rural parts of his country.

From Literary Hub: On Giving Tuesday, acclaimed author Jason Reynolds paid local bookstores in Washington, D.C., for every single copy of his books that they stocked, so that residents could pick them up for free.

From The Bookseller: Costa Coffee and UK charity The Reading Agency teamed up to donate 100,000 books ahead of Christmas to those hardest hit by the pandemic.

These are, of course, merely the tip (the single ice crystal?) of the iceberg — please don't hesitate to share touching tales you've encountered in the comments!
