March has been a big month so far for author Patricia Engel.

Her novel Infinite Country was released and also announced as Reese Witherspoon's book club pick.

The novel tells the story of two generations of a Colombian family: parents Mauro and Elena, who flee the instability of their home country for the United States, and their children, the Colombia-born Karina and the US-born Nando and Talia.

All five face their own distinct struggles, from deportation to incarceration, and the book explores the voices of each.

You can read an excerpt from Infinite Country in the New York Times.
