The buildup was finally over for three much-talked-about books today.

Philip Roth by Blake Bailey (a biography), Beautiful Things by Hunter Biden (a memoir), and First Person Singular by Haruki Murakami (a short story collection) all hit shelves — and did so high on the Amazon bestseller lists, too.

The critical reaction, meanwhile, has been generally positive, which isn’t to say there weren’t some complaints or harsh words about each.
