Today we're interviewing Kari Trumbo, an author of Christian historical and contemporary romance, and romantic suspense.

She is also USA Today bestselling author Teri Blake.

SADYE: Tell us something about your writing process that’s unusual or that you haven’t revealed before.

KARI: I write to the sound of water. I keep a video on in the background that plays about ten-hour loops of water sounds.

I don’t like complete silence, but active conversations or movies distract me.

SADYE: What has been the most surprising part of your writing career?

KARI: The most surprising is getting emails from readers who have questions.

It’s really fun to hear what they think about characters or stories I’ve created.

SADYE: What has been the most touching or memorable piece of reader feedback you’ve received?

KARI: A reader once told me that she finally felt seen/heard after reading one of my books.

I try so hard to make all my characters different with unique situations from any of my others.

It was wonderful to know that a reader had connected so well with one of them.

SADYE: What message or theme would you like readers to take away from your work?

KARI: My books' underlying themes are forgiveness and second chances; even if those tropes aren’t used, you’ll get that underlying feeling.

I truly believe there’s no such thing as a “last chance” at life until you take that final breath.

SADYE: What advice, as relates to your writing career, would you give your younger self?

KARI: Enjoy every step of the process.

I used to hate editing because it felt tedious, until one of my editors told me that my strength is actually in my editing. The story really shines when I apply my efforts there.

Since then, I look at editing with new eyes and can’t wait to get my editor's comments back.
