Though the century is relatively young, it’s safe to say that the September 11, 2001, terror attacks are among its defining historical moments, at least for Americans.
And with a milestone anniversary approaching — twenty years — it’s time for the retrospectives.
The focus of this one, of course, is literature.
Elisabeth Egan took a look back at the bestselling books in early September 2001, with one chilling note.
On September 10, 2001, she visited a particular Borders and bought a book there.
She can’t remember which book, but she remembers how she never especially cared for that particular store.
Its location? The shopping concourse under the World Trade Center.
