The week in book protests began in Pennsylvania, but now it’s time to head west — to the Midwest.

The Cass County Public Library (in Missouri, near Kansas City) has been hearing from angry parents who want a book about puberty and sex education pulled from the shelves.

It’s Perfectly Normal, by Robie Harris, has been in the library since 1994, according to local TV station KKTV.

And it’s been placed in an age-appropriate place in the nonfiction section, one library trustee told the Kansas City Star.

However, parents protested its inclusion at both the August and September monthly library board meetings.

No action was taken on the book after the most recent meeting, according to an email from the board of trustees president.

Curious about this book now (as are the patrons of Cass County's library, which is seeing increased demand for it as protests gain public attention)? NPR spoke with its author in 2014, when a new edition was issued.
