Beloved YA author Gary Paulsen passed away yesterday at age eighty-two, according to his publisher.

Penguin Random House also said that his final novel, Northwind, will come out in January 2022.

Paulson is best-known for the 1986 novel Hatchet, which along with Dogsong and The Winter Room received a Newbery Honor.

The themes of survival that run through these and many other works among his oeuvre came from his own challenging childhood, something he discussed in depth in a memoir earlier this year.
