One might expect the novella Passing to remind a reader of The Vanishing Half, as both feature Black women who can (and sometimes choose) to pass as white.

But NPR’s Carole V. Bell found herself thinking more of Patricia Highsmith’s style when reading Nella Larsen's 1929 book, she says, citing its “sense of sensual glamour, frustration, and foreboding.”

So if the Netflix film version of the novel piqued your interest, the book version is well worth checking out … not that that likely needed to be said.
