5 debut novels are on the Women's Prize for Fiction longlist

The longlist for the 2022 Women's Prize for Fiction has been released.

The Guardian notes that five debut novels made the list, while some very prominent authors didn't — an occurrence that the chair of judges attributed to the fact that these debuts were "brilliant."

Any woman writing in English is eligible for the £30,000 (about $39,300) prize, inspired by a year in which no women were shortlisted for the Booker Prize.

The Women's Prize shortlist will come out April 27, with the winner being announced June 15.

• The Final Revival of Opal & Nev, by Dawnie Walton 

• The Island Of Missing Trees, by Elif Shafak

• The Paper Palace, by Miranda Cowley Heller

• The Sentence, by Louise Erdrich
