A cleverly titled auction will take place later this month to benefit English PEN.

First Editions, Second Thoughts features, as you might guess, initial copies of books in which the author has put some retrospective notes.

The Guardian highlights the contributions of Hilary Mantel (Bring Up the Bodies and The Mirror and the Light), John le Carré (The Spy Who Came in From the Cold), Ian McEwan (Atonement), and Monica Ali (Brick Lane) among the eighty-plus authors included.

The auction runs from June 28 to July 12, and estimates for the works run from £1,000 to £20,000 (about $1,250 to $25,100).

Pictures of the annotations from Mantel, Ali, and McEwan, along with spoken comments, are up at the Guardian.
