If you've enjoyed Batman films, we have some sad news.

Tim Sale, a comic book artist cited as inspiration by filmmakers Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves, died Thursday at the age of sixty-six.

The New York Times reports that Sale began collaborating with writer Jeph Loeb in 1991.

One of those works, the murder-mystery The Long Halloween, was also specifically cited by actor Christian Bale as an influence on his portrayal of Batman.

You can read more about Sale in the NY Times's obituary.
