Today we're interviewing G.K. Brady, an award-winning writer of contemporary romance.

She loves telling tales of the less-than-perfect hero or heroine who transforms with each turn of a page.

Brady is a wife and the proud mom of three grown sons, and she currently resides in Colorado with her very patient husband.

She also writes historical fiction under the pen name Griffin Brady.

SADYE: Which of your characters would you most and least like to trade places with?

G.K.: Paige Anderson (Book 1, Taming Beckett) is the character I’d most like to trade places with.

Not only does she end up with a “tamed” Beckett, but she is killer at rehabbing houses. I flipped houses for many years, but I never managed to streamline the projects like I wanted to.

I always aspired to do it the way she does, which is with a loyal, dedicated team (everyone loves her) and at a breakneck pace. She kicks a**. She’s my hero.

SADYE: Which of your characters would you most and least like to become romantically involved with?

G.K.: Though I absolutely adore him, I would never choose to be romantically involved with Beckett.

My self-confidence isn’t tough enough to withstand the kind of adulation he draws to himself.

The character I would most like to be involved with is a toss-up between Gage and Marty.

They’re down to earth, have tunnel vision when it comes to the women they love (in other words, those are the only women they see), and they’re devoted family men.

I believe I just described my husband!

SADYE: What have been the most surprising, rewarding, and challenging parts of your writing career?

G.K.: The most surprising has been that people read what I write!

The most rewarding has been, hands down, interacting with readers.

As for the most challenging, it has to be the hours of marketing and keeping up with the head-spinning changes in this industry, and the sheer volume of everything I have yet to learn.

I wouldn’t trade it, though.

SADYE: What period of history would you most like to travel back to / what historical figure would you most like to meet, and why?

G.K.: Oh, so many!

But since I have to pick one, I would love to travel back to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth of the late 16th century-early 17th century and watch a battlefield charge by the Polish Winged Hussars.

I’ve written about this time period and these amazing cavalrymen in my historical fiction works, but to actually touch, smell, and witness what I’ve only imagined would be phenomenal.

Once there, I would love to meet Field Crown Hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski. He was a brilliant yet humble military leader, whose quiet wisdom was admired by many.

SADYE: What has been the most touching or memorable piece of reader feedback you’ve received?

G.K.: A reader reached out to me after her last chemo cycle to let me know reading one of my books gave her the escape she needed to get through the ordeal.

I often think of her, and I still tear up thinking about the lovely note she sent me.

SADYE: What advice, as relates to your writing career, would you give your younger self?

G.K.: Skip that creative writing class that sucked the joy out of you in college, and just get started.

Don’t wait decades. Just. Write.
